Marketing apprenticeship funding bands

Every marketing apprenticeship standard, its level and the most that can be paid for it from public funds. The Marketing Trainer delivers Multi-channel marketer (level 3, £11,000) and Market research executive (level 4, £8,000); the rest are here so you can compare.

What are the funding bands for marketing apprenticeships?

Multi-channel marketer (level 3) £11,000; Market research executive (level 4) £8,000; Marketing executive (level 4) £6,000; Content creator (level 3) £10,000; Marketing manager (level 6) £9,000.

Those are the maximums. A levy-paying employer pays the price from their levy account; an employer that does not pay the levy pays 5% of it and the government pays the rest, and some apprentices are fully funded depending on age and circumstances. We deliver the first two standards in the table below and say so; the others are listed because people compare them, and because one of them is routinely mistaken for a level 4.

Which marketing apprenticeship is which?

The same table as prose, for anyone deciding between them.

Multi-channel marketer (level 3, ST1031)£11,000

The general marketing apprenticeship: content, social, email, campaigns and reporting across online and offline channels. The successor to Digital marketer. Our Multi-channel marketer programme

Market research executive (level 4, ST0883)£8,000

For research teams and agencies: designing research, collecting and analysing data, and turning it into insight. Our Market research executive programme

Marketing executive (level 4, ST0596)£6,000

A level 4 generalist standard aimed at marketers already in a role who plan and run activity rather than only execute it.

Content creator (level 3, ST1075)£10,000

Producing written, audio and video content for a brand or publisher; narrower than Multi-channel marketer.

Marketing manager (level 6, ST0612)£9,000

The degree-level standard for people leading marketing strategy and teams. Often mistaken online for a level 4 executive standard; it is not one.

Digital marketer (level 3, ST0122)

Retired, so no new starts. Multi-channel marketer is its replacement and covers the same ground plus offline channels.

How does an apprenticeship funding band work?

A band is a ceiling, not a price: the most that public funds will put towards training and end-point assessment for that standard.

Every apprenticeship standard is assigned to a band by the Department for Education on Skills England’s recommendation. The provider and the employer agree a price at or below it. If you pay the apprenticeship levy, the price comes out of your levy account. If you do not, you pay 5% of it and the government pays the rest, and the training is fully funded for some apprentices depending on their age and circumstances. End-point assessment is inside the band, not on top of it.

What the band does not cover: the apprentice’s salary, and costs the funding rules exclude, such as professional body membership fees. Against the salary sit the incentive payments and the employer National Insurance exemption for apprentices under 25. The cost of a marketing apprentice works a first year through end to end.

The maximum amount that can be spent on an apprenticeship's training and end-point assessment from an employer's levy account, or that the government will co-fund for employers who do not pay the levy. Each standard has one, set by the Department for Education on Skills England's recommendation. A provider's price can be at or below the band, never above it from public funds.

Does the funding band cover the CIM qualification?

With The Marketing Trainer, yes: the CIM Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Marketing is delivered inside the Multi-channel marketer apprenticeship and funded in the normal way, because its content overlaps the standard's knowledge, skills and behaviours. Costs the funding rules exclude, such as professional body membership fees, sit outside it. How we embed a CIM qualification.
